Argyll Rainforest Community Network commission

This Is Our Home is the result of a week long community engagement in two areas of temperate rainforest in Argyll, Scotland. As resident artist during this week I worked with children at Lochgilphead and Tighnabruaich primary schools, and we explored their experience of their local rainforest, making music together, improvising, talking and moving. Our focus was the development and recording of a song which forms the heart of my new piece for cello, inspired by the fragments of rainforest that I visited. I was also able to spend time in two locations that are home to fragments of temperate rainforest, spend time with local ecologists, meet the community and sit with the trees. You can listen to the music and read more about it here.

Cove Park residency

As part of the ARCN commission I was awarded a week long residency at Cove Park. This allowed me space to reflect on my time spent in the rainforest, the people I met and the way they interacted with the land, my ecological learning and the enthusiasm of the children for their very special local forest. I used this time to write and record This Is Our Home.
